- Paper II: The second paper is known as the “CSAT” (Civil Services Aptitude Test). It assesses the candidate’s problem-solving skills, decision-making abilities, comprehension, data interpretation, English language skills, and basic numeracy.
- Marks Distribution:
- Each paper is worth 200 marks.
- The total marks for the Prelims Examination are 400.
- Negative Marking: There is a penalty for incorrect answers. As of my last update, 0.25 marks were deducted for each wrong answer. This discourages guessing and encourages candidates to answer only if they are reasonably sure of the correct response.
- Qualifying Nature: The Prelims Examination is a screening test. The marks obtained in this examination are not counted for the final merit list. The purpose of the Prelims is to shortlist candidates for the KPSC Main Examination.
- Cut-off Marks: The KPSC releases the cut-off marks for both Paper I and Paper II. Candidates must score above these cut-off marks to qualify for the Main Examination.
- Language of Examination: The KPSC Prelims Examination is usually conducted in both English and Kannada. Candidates can choose their preferred language for answering the question paper.
