Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tweeted an important immediate order to provide compensation to houses and agricultural land damaged due to rain. Rupees 5 lakh as immediate compensation should be given to the victims in case of complete damage of house due to rain. The decision aims to give priority to the quick welfare and rehabilitation of affected families, irrespective of land ownership or availability of title deeds.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tweeted the matter to emphasize the importance of providing shelter to the victims. The move is to provide immediate relief to those who lost their houses and belongings due to the rain.
Further, the Chief Minister directed the officials to conduct a comprehensive survey of crop losses and said that quick compensation to those affected should be given priority. The agriculture sector in the state is the livelihood of many and it is essential to support the farmers who have suffered losses.
Besides financial assistance, the government is keen to encourage affected farmers to explore alternative crops. After disbursing crop compensation, the government will provide all necessary facilities including seeds and fertilizers to support farmers to grow alternative crops in time, he said.
Officials have been directed to look into the spread of leaf spot disease in areca-nut crops and seek help from agronomists to find suitable solutions. These efforts will try to protect the agricultural sector from potential problems and protect farmers who are heavily dependent on nut crops, he said.
However, to ensure effective implementation of this scheme, it is a challenge to the government to simplify the process of relief disbursement and timely and transparent relief disbursement will help address the needs of the affected.
As the implementation of the relief plan begins, citizens have urged the authorities to report their damages quickly. In this regard, it is imperative that the authorities should make adequate preparations, and how they will bring this to fruition, we have to wait and see.
