Festival Of Sankranti held at Hiregutti is called Avala Habba
Kumta: Avalahabba held every year at the time of Sankranti in Hiregutti took place with great pomp on Sunday.
The urns decorated with different kinds of flowers in the temple of Urn house at Hiregutti, Kumta in Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka were carried by the priests to take a tour around the village all way. The urns of three deities of the village named, Sri Yajamana Bommaiah God, Sri Hirehosaba God and Sri Sannahosaba God were carried to the old urn house near Moraba which borders Hiregutti on the National Highway 66 which is 2 km away from the Urn house from Hiregutti.
They faced toward Hiregutti as the 3 Kalasas set off on their majestic walk on the highway. The sight of devotees and crowds of people walking with the Urns of God was a punching thrill. All over the road, the devotees offered fruit, coconut and aarti to the god and brought more joy to the Kalasotsavam or the festival of Urn. The three Kalasas left the house of old Urn, as soon as offering worship in the presence of Mahalingeswara of Hiregutti and gave orders these left for Sri Yajamana Bommaya temple. There God Bommaiah takes his seat and from there Hirehosaba, Sannahosabha goes to its place through Bolekeri area of the village. Then Hirehosaba and Sanharhosaba give orders in their presence and sit in their place.
Later, at 8 p.m., the Urn of God Bommaiah again waits for the arrival of his younger brothers Hirehosabha and Sannahosabha at Somaara Gadde. As soon as Hirehosaba-Sannahosaba rejoins Bommaiah God from his place got worshiped at Golibeera temple and offered pooja at the house of Urn in Bolekeri and Kalasotsava ends up there. Thousands of devotees gathered and offered worship to God and got darshan and became grateful. With the cooperation of priests, moktasadars, gaonkaras, katagadars, infantrymen and villagers, the festival of Sankranti (Avala festival) was held very neatly and with great pomp.
